Democracy at risk as accountability fades

During a recent city council meeting, significant concerns were raised regarding accountability and the state of democracy at both local and national levels. Emily Ladosio reported on the deer population and the impact of deer fencing, advocating for a review of municipal codes regarding fencing materials to ensure they do not harm wildlife. Ladosio further requested increased police monitoring of the Asilomar area during the Fourth of July celebrations due to ongoing issues with illegal fireworks, which have been a disturbance in the neighborhood.

Another council member emphasized the need for adequate trash receptacles in public parks during holiday events, reflecting on past challenges with littering and the importance of maintaining cleanliness in community spaces.
