City launches emergency measures to combat extreme heat

During a recent government meeting, Pontiac officials addressed critical issues surrounding public safety amid extreme heat conditions. Mayor Greimel highlighted the National Weather Service's excessive heat warning for the area, urging residents to take precautions such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight, and checking on vulnerable neighbors, particularly seniors.

To combat the heat, the city has established cooling centers at the Bowen Center and the Ruth Peterson Center, which will remain open from 9 AM to 8 PM throughout the week. Mayor Greimel expressed gratitude to city employees who volunteered for overtime shifts to ensure these centers remain operational, even on Juneteenth when the city is officially closed.
