Flint resident warns of dangerous train tracks threatening safety

During a recent city council meeting, Flint resident James Moore raised urgent concerns regarding public safety related to the condition of train tracks on Howard Avenue. Moore highlighted that the tracks in this area are in disrepair, with noticeable bouncing on the wooden supports, which he fears could lead to a catastrophic incident similar to recent train derailments in Ohio.

Moore emphasized the proximity of Howard Estates to the problematic tracks, urging council members to personally inspect the situation. He pointed out that while other nearby tracks, such as those in front of General Motors and the Michigan Food Bank, have been maintained, the tracks near the lumber yard remain neglected. He expressed his alarm over the potential danger posed to residents, stating, “I don’t want to hear that the train track bounced out the way and the train fell over… and people get killed.”

Moore's passionate plea underscored the need for immediate action to address the safety hazards posed by the deteriorating infrastructure. He called on Mayor Neely and all council members to visit the site and witness the conditions firsthand, stressing that the community's safety should be a top priority. The meeting continued with other speakers, but Moore's remarks highlighted a critical issue that demands attention from city officials.
