Budget plan reveals significant pay raises for emergency workers

In a recent government meeting, officials outlined a proposed budget that includes significant pay increases for various employee categories within Meggs County. The budget allocates a 3%, 6%, and 12% salary increase based on the type of employment, aimed at enhancing compensation for essential workers.

Employees outside of emergency services will receive a 3% raise, which applies to courthouse and library staff. Emergency first responders, excluding paramedics and EMTs, will see a 6% increase. Paramedics and EMTs, who are critical to public safety, will benefit the most with a 12% pay hike.

The proposed increases will adjust hourly wages significantly. For instance, EMTs' pay will rise from $13.67 to $15.31, while paramedics will see their wages increase from $16.29 to $18.24. Additionally, deputies will earn $19.03, and corrections officers and dispatchers will receive $16.01 following the 6% increase.

The adjustments reflect a concerted effort to ensure that salaries for these essential roles remain competitive and fair, addressing previous discussions about wage disparities.
