Pet adoption event rescues 194 animals and promotes safety

Animal Services in San Bernardino recently celebrated a successful pet adoption week in collaboration with several local organizations, including Ryan's War and the Eastwood Foundation. The event resulted in the adoption or rescue of 194 dogs and cats, culminating in an adoption and microchipping fair at Wildwood Park. In addition, the Animal Services department reported that over 200 pets were microchipped in just three days during a special event at the animal shelter.

As temperatures rise, city officials are reminding residents of the various community facilities available to help beat the heat. Free access to community centers, senior centers, parks, pools, splash pads, and libraries is encouraged, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and families with young children.

With the Fourth of July approaching, officials reiterated the strict regulations regarding fireworks in San Bernardino. Fireworks are prohibited north of the 210 freeway and include any aerial or explosive devices. Violators face hefty fines, starting at $1,000 for the first offense. Residents are urged to report illegal fireworks usage to the San Bernardino Police Department, with a reward of $250 for information leading to a conviction.

Additionally, pet owners are advised to take precautions during the fireworks season, as loud noises can frighten pets, leading them to escape. Keeping pets indoors and secure is crucial to prevent them from running away during the celebrations.
