New public art project set to transform Addison townhomes

During a recent village council meeting, the introduction of two new public art pieces for the upcoming Addison Townhomes project was met with enthusiasm and support from council members and the community. Andrea Candelaria, the assistant sustainability and resiliency planner, presented the details of the art installations, which are designed to enhance the aesthetic of the development and reflect the village's commitment to environmental sustainability.

The first piece, titled \"Wings of Color,\" created by artists Amir Shakir and Yvette Cabrera, will feature a combination of murals and 3D sculptures inspired by local butterflies, specifically the giant swallowtail. The second installation, \"Flora Riviere,\" depicts a serene woman in harmony with her surroundings, surrounded by local flowers and butterflies. The mural is intended to convey a message of connection to nature and community, showcasing the beauty of the village.

Both pieces received unanimous approval from the Art and Public Places Committee, with council member Cody expressing particular excitement about the project. He highlighted the developers' commitment to integrating art into the community rather than opting for a financial contribution, emphasizing the importance of engaging with local artists to bring fresh ideas to public spaces.
