During a recent government meeting, significant commendations were presented to two members of the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department for their exemplary actions in critical situations.
Corrections Corporal Isaac Scott was recognized for his quick response on March 17, 2024, when he intervened to prevent a suicide attempt by an inmate. After noticing a lack of response from the inmate during a routine check, Corporal Scott found the individual in distress, attempting to asphyxiate himself with his socks. His prompt actions not only saved the inmate's life but also adhered to established safety protocols. In appreciation of his bravery, Scott was awarded a $100 gift card to Longhorn Steakhouse.
Sheriff Michael J. Brock also received accolades for his compassionate leadership during a severe winter storm in January. He coordinated a search for a missing resident with medical issues, which tragically turned into a rescue mission after the individual was found injured in a gorge. Despite the unfortunate outcome, Brock's dedication to the victim's family and his efforts to ensure their well-being were highlighted as exemplary. Additionally, he was commended for personally delivering critical medication to a citizen in need during the storm, showcasing his commitment to the community.
Both Scott and Brock were praised for their selfless service and dedication, with officials emphasizing the importance of recognizing such unsung heroes within the community. The meeting underscored the vital role law enforcement plays in ensuring public safety and supporting residents in times of crisis.
