Residents raise safety concerns over controversial property access

During a recent government meeting, significant concerns were raised regarding a proposed application related to a property in the Scott District, which has drawn opposition from local residents. Four letters of public comment were submitted, all expressing disapproval of the application, with two letters arriving just before the meeting.

Key issues discussed included the shared driveway that serves as the only access point for emergency vehicles. This raised alarms among commissioners, particularly regarding safety in case of emergencies, such as drownings, given the property's proximity to water. The driveway is located on a neighboring property owned by Ally Prosper, who is also opposed to the application.

Commissioners expressed the need for a site visit to better understand the conditions surrounding the property, particularly the access road, which some described as potentially hazardous. One commissioner noted that descriptions of the road in the letters of opposition did not seem exaggerated, indicating a serious concern for safety.

Further discussions highlighted issues with the property’s address visibility on the county's GIS system, which did not return results when searched. This raised questions about the accessibility and safety of the property, as it could complicate emergency responses.

Additionally, the condition of a rustic cabin on the property was brought into question. It was described as being in derelict condition and not safe for habitation, which led to concerns about its use as a fishing shelter. Commissioners unanimously agreed that if the cabin posed safety risks, it should not be utilized.

The meeting concluded without a decision on the application, as commissioners indicated they were not ready to act until further assessments could be made regarding the safety and accessibility of the property.
