Oneonta Renaissance sparks community creativity and foot traffic surge

During a recent government meeting, local leaders discussed the ongoing success of the Oneonta Renaissance program, which aims to revitalize the city through arts and community engagement. The program has seen a significant increase in foot traffic in downtown areas, with businesses reporting higher visitor numbers compared to previous years. For instance, Magic Box and Tino's Pizza noted a surge in customers, with Tino's stating they are so busy they can barely keep up.

Josh Taylor, the newly appointed coordinator for the downtown renaissance program, presented data showing a marked increase in visitors to Mueller Plaza, with numbers rising from 266 last year to 646 this year during the same period. Social media engagement has also flourished, with over 164,000 impressions recorded from May to June, indicating a growing interest in local events.

The meeting highlighted various initiatives, including themed events like Street Food Saturdays, which feature local vendors and live music, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. Taylor emphasized the importance of inclusivity and diversity in programming, citing a successful Juneteenth celebration that brought the community together.

Additionally, the construction of a new information kiosk in Mueller Plaza is nearing completion, designed to provide visitors with local information and promote local businesses. The council members expressed enthusiasm for the progress made and the positive impact of the renaissance program on the community's cultural landscape.
