City gears up for spectacular hot air balloon festival

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed preparations for an upcoming hot air balloon event, highlighting logistical details and community engagement efforts. The event, set to take place this Saturday, will feature seven hot air balloons and a tethered balloon, with public viewing available from outside the venue. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a barbecue, organized by local vendor Tommy Andraro, with a nominal fee for participants.

Admission to the event is priced at $10 for adults, while children under 12 can enter for free. To support local nonprofits, 50 complimentary tickets will be distributed, allowing these organizations to benefit from the event. Organizers anticipate a turnout of 10,000 to 12,000 attendees, with parking provided at no charge to simplify logistics.

The meeting also touched on the display of approximately 60 aircraft, including military options, with efforts underway to coordinate with local air stations. Officials noted that the event's marketing outreach is progressing well, with additional support from the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

In other discussions, the city treasurer was asked to calculate potential revenue based on attendance projections, emphasizing a conservative approach to financial expectations. The meeting concluded with updates on a project moving to the planning commission for approval, reflecting a collaborative spirit among city officials and a commitment to community development. The next meeting is scheduled for July 17.
