Maui dispatchers honored for heroism during wildfires

During a recent council meeting, members recognized Maui County's 911 emergency services dispatchers for their exceptional performance during the devastating wildfires on August 8, 2023. The council adopted Resolution 24 122, which honors the dispatchers for receiving the Outstanding Call Center Award from the NG 911 Institute.

Vice Chair Sugimura introduced a substitute version of the resolution to include the names of the dispatchers who worked tirelessly during the crisis. The resolution highlights the dispatchers' critical role in managing an unprecedented volume of emergency calls, with over 4,500 calls received in just 24 hours during the wildfires. The council also waived Rule 19 C, allowing for immediate final action on the resolution.

The resolution acknowledges the professionalism and dedication of the dispatchers, who often work under immense stress while providing essential services to the community. It commends their efforts in protecting both emergency responders and the public, emphasizing their commitment to service 24/7 throughout the year.
