City Council Approves Free Pool Access Amid Heat Wave

This initiative aims to offer relief from the extreme heat conditions currently affecting the region, with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The resolution, spearheaded by council members Andrea Boone, Byron Amos, Antonio Lewis, and others, highlights the urgent need for cooling options for residents, particularly vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. The city’s indoor pools, typically closed on weekends and holidays, will now serve as vital resources for residents seeking respite from the heat.

Additionally, the council discussed various other initiatives, including the establishment of a crime scene cleanup program and the acceptance of a significant donation to the Atlanta Police Department for transportation purposes. Council member Boone also introduced a proposal for micro grants aimed at empowering young people to develop climate solutions, alongside a resolution to support local businesses through the Atlanta Development Authority.
