Residents rally against controversial road project in East Point

During a recent East Point City Council meeting, local residents expressed strong opposition to a proposed road diet project along 9 Mile Road, citing concerns from numerous businesses in the area. Carol Reed, a lifelong resident and precinct delegate, presented a list of businesses that do not support the project, including Duronie Hardware, Sunoco Gas Station, and Milestone Restaurant, among others.

Reed emphasized that the project is unwanted by the community, stating, \"Nobody wants what you want on this road,\" and warned that the implementation of the road diet could lead to significant business losses. She highlighted that the only grocery store in East Point might relocate due to declining customer traffic and increased tax burdens.

Another resident echoed Reed's sentiments, describing the proposed changes as misguided and referencing a nearby area that has already undergone similar modifications, which they deemed a failure. The meeting underscored a growing frustration among residents and business owners regarding the council's plans, raising questions about the project's viability and its potential impact on the local economy.
