City approves ambitious five story redevelopment project

In a recent government meeting, the St. Petersburg City Council approved a significant redevelopment project at 357 Third Street South, which will feature a five-story building with 36 residential units and a ground-floor parking garage accommodating 24 vehicles. The project, estimated to cost $12 million, aims to enhance the urban landscape and align with the city’s in-town redevelopment goals.

Corey Maliska, the city’s zoning official, presented the proposal, highlighting that the building will occupy a majority of the vacant lot. The design includes a contemporary architectural style with stucco finishes, projecting balconies, and extensive glazing. The ground floor will house a lobby, amenity space, bicycle parking, and utility rooms, while pedestrian access will be facilitated from the public sidewalk along Third Street South.

The project adheres to the city’s land development code and design guidelines, ensuring compatibility with the surrounding area. Key features include a decorative facade for the parking garage, enhanced pedestrian pathways, and landscaping that contributes to a pleasant walking experience. The proposed building's height and massing are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing structures in the downtown area, including other recent developments.

The council unanimously approved the project, with all present members voting in favor, marking a significant step forward in St. Petersburg's ongoing efforts to revitalize its urban core.
