During a recent government meeting, discussions centered around the Jacksonville Jaguars' commitment to remaining in the city and the potential for the team to play at the University of North Florida (UNF). Council member Paluso expressed appreciation for the Jaguars' efforts, highlighting that conversations with team representatives, including Mr. Harden and Mr. Lamping, began six to eight months ago.
Paluso emphasized that the Jaguars have been proactive in exploring options to stay in Jacksonville, stating, \"We looked at every possibility,\" and noted that the estimated cost for the necessary arrangements was around $98 million, which ultimately proved to be cost prohibitive. He reassured the community that the decision to consider relocation was not made lightly.
Additionally, Councilman Johnson echoed Paluso's sentiments, indicating his own interest in having the Jaguars play in District 3 but quickly realizing the impracticality of that option.
The meeting also addressed upcoming legislative actions, with new legislation set to be introduced on July 23rd. Council members noted that they have until mid-October to finalize discussions regarding the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and the potential funding of $150 million for the Jaguars' future in Jacksonville. The council remains optimistic about working through these processes in the coming months.
