City approves major upgrade to 911 services

In a recent government meeting, council members unanimously approved a resolution following its reading and public hearing. The motion was seconded and passed with all members voting in favor.

The meeting then transitioned to a discussion on finance, led by Mr. Sigrist, who introduced ordinance C2624. This ordinance authorizes the city administrator to enter into an agreement with the City of Columbus for Viper 911 services. Mr. Vidra provided insights into the necessity of this upgrade, highlighting that the current Viper 911 system will be enhanced through the implementation of next-generation 911 capabilities.

The upgrade will include significant advancements in hardware and software, allowing for features such as text-to-911 and improved geolocation services. Additionally, the new system will enable the relocation of 911 stations from their current location in the event of a disaster. This initiative represents a substantial investment by the City of Columbus, aimed at improving emergency response capabilities across multiple jurisdictions, including Reynoldsburg, Grandview, John Glenn, and Ohio State 911 centers.
