Parents unite to advocate for better school representation

During a recent Community Education Council (CEC) meeting, prospective members shared their motivations for joining and the unique perspectives they bring to the diverse district. The discussions highlighted the importance of representation and advocacy for families, particularly those who may be unaware of available educational resources.

One candidate, a mother of two, emphasized her commitment to establishing a strong school system, noting her recent introduction to the public school system as her son entered sixth grade. She expressed a desire to advocate for families, especially migrant families, and to ensure that their needs are understood and addressed within the educational framework.

Another candidate, Miss Harris, shared her journey of discovering the CEC through social media and conversations with educators. Her personal experience advocating for her son, who has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), fueled her passion for joining the council. She highlighted the challenges faced by families lacking resources and her goal to ensure equitable access to quality education for all children.

Miss Williams, a former PTA president, also expressed her interest in contributing to the CEC, indicating her background in school governance and community engagement.

The meeting underscored a collective commitment among the candidates to enhance educational opportunities and support for all families in the district, reflecting a growing awareness of the need for advocacy and representation in local education governance.
