In a recent meeting of the Development Parks and Recreation Committee, council members discussed a significant contract with the Stonehenge Company for the sale of land adjacent to the Central Ohio Primary Care facility. The proposed development aims to create a multi-use sports complex, which will include a 30,000 square foot restaurant and retail space, as well as athletic facilities designed to accommodate various sports.
The complex is set to feature two large buildings: one will be an indoor facility approximately the size of a football field, equipped for sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball, while the other will include additional indoor spaces for activities like pickleball and batting cages. The project also plans to incorporate a chapter of the Reynoldsburg Boys and Girls Club, enhancing community engagement and youth programs.
The sale price for the land is proposed at $600,000, aligning with previous sales in the area. The timeline for construction is targeted for late spring to early summer of 2025, with city officials emphasizing the urgency to finalize the deal to mitigate rising costs and interest rates.
City Attorney Shook highlighted the detailed nature of the purchase and sale agreement, which includes provisions to ensure the project is completed as planned. If the developer fails to meet construction deadlines, the city has the option to reclaim the property for a nominal fee or receive a payment of $1 million, ensuring accountability in the development process.
The committee's discussions reflect a commitment to enhancing local recreational facilities while addressing community needs, particularly for lower-income students through transportation partnerships with the school district. The meeting concluded with a call for further questions and comments, indicating ongoing engagement with the community regarding this important development initiative.
