Security Measures Intensify Amid Surge in Car Theft Crisis

In a recent government meeting, discussions centered around enhancing security measures for local car dealerships, which have become prime targets for theft. A dealership owner highlighted the alarming trend of car thefts, noting that criminals can steal vehicles in as little as two minutes due to advancements in key technology. He recounted a recent incident at his dealership in Clinton Township, where thieves attempted to steal keys and ultimately made off with 400 cars valued at over $88 million.

The owner emphasized that security is paramount, advocating for the construction of a retaining wall to protect the dealership from potential break-ins. He proposed relocating the wall to the east side of the alley to improve visibility and security while still allowing access for first responders. The discussion also touched on the possibility of incorporating gates into the screening wall to facilitate emergency access.
