City honors legacy of community champion Mary Rose Brown

During a recent city council meeting, Mayor acknowledged the passing of community advocate Mary Rose Brown, urging attendees to observe a moment of silence in her honor. Brown was recognized for her extensive service to vulnerable populations within the city, and the mayor expressed hope that her mission would continue.

Following the tribute, Council Member Rocha Garcia introduced Eric Cruz, a seminarian from the Archdiocese of San Antonio, who led the assembly in a prayer. Cruz, who is pursuing advanced degrees in theology, emphasized the importance of community support and compassion for those facing various challenges, including homelessness and mental health issues. His prayer called for wisdom and strength for city leaders and highlighted the need for collective action to assist those in need.

The meeting proceeded with the approval of minutes from previous council sessions, which passed without discussion. The mayor also introduced Sylvie Johanan, President and Executive Director of a new partnership with the city, marking a significant step in community collaboration. The meeting underscored the city’s commitment to addressing the needs of its most vulnerable residents while fostering partnerships aimed at enhancing community welfare.
