Community rallies for new school amid relocation concerns

In a recent Richardson City Council meeting, community leaders and residents voiced their opinions on local issues, particularly the relocation of Binetti Presbyterian Church and its potential transformation into a school.

Charles Zhang, senior pastor of Binetti Presbyterian Church, expressed gratitude for the support received during the congregation's relocation process. He emphasized the importance of selling the church building to facilitate their transition and expressed excitement about Columbia Academy's plans to use the property for a faith-based educational institution. Zhang praised the academy for its ethical standards and requested the council's support for the relocation.

Danelle Lyons, president of the Richland Neighborhood Association, echoed Zhang's sentiments, highlighting the proactive engagement of John Jordan, headmaster of the Dallas campus of Columbia Academy, with the neighborhood. Lyons noted that the association unanimously supported the school's relocation, citing its long-standing reputation and minimal impact on the Richardson Independent School District (RISD), which serves over 37,000 students. She reassured the council that the traffic patterns would remain manageable, referencing existing traffic conditions around the area.

Both speakers underscored the community's desire to avoid leaving the church building vacant, advocating for the school as a beneficial addition to the neighborhood. The discussions reflect a broader commitment among residents to enhance local educational opportunities while maintaining the integrity of their community.
