Brave 13 year old saves community from raging fire

In a recent Haines City Commissioner meeting, the community came together to honor a young hero, 13-year-old Joshua Blake Gap, for his courageous actions during a significant motor vehicle accident. The meeting commenced with an invocation led by Vice Mayor West, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Fire Chief commendations highlighted Joshua's quick thinking on May 7, 2024, when he witnessed a dump truck crash that caused a brush fire threatening nearby properties. Instead of recording the incident, Joshua took immediate action by using his family's front-end loader to create a dirt barrier, effectively containing the flames and assisting firefighters in extinguishing the fire swiftly.

Chief's commendation recognized Joshua's bravery and resourcefulness, noting that his actions were akin to those of a trained first responder. His intervention not only prevented potential damage to structures but also showcased the spirit of community service. The fire chief expressed gratitude for Joshua's exemplary conduct, emphasizing the importance of such proactive citizens in ensuring community safety.
