North Chicago gears up for exciting community days celebration

The North Chicago City Council held its final meeting before the upcoming Community Days, scheduled for August 2 and 4, inviting residents to participate in a series of festive events. This year’s celebration is a collaborative effort involving the city, the park district, and School District 187, aimed at fostering community spirit.

The festivities will kick off on Friday, August 2, with a movie night in the park hosted by Foss Park, providing a family-friendly atmosphere for children and their families. The following day, Saturday, August 3, will feature a parade starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a gathering at Foss Park where attendees can enjoy music, entertainment, and a variety of food options.

The evening promises to be lively, with Crazy Howard McGee serving as the emcee and a battle of the bands competition encouraging community participation. Notably, Sandy Red, a finalist from \"The Voice,\" will headline the entertainment from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, alongside performances from Latino bands.

Sunday, August 4, will conclude the festivities with a gospel music event, headlined by Kim McFarland. The weekend will also include a fireworks display on Saturday night, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

In response to a question regarding activities for children, Mayor Coleman confirmed that there will be no fees for bouncy houses this year, ensuring that families can enjoy the attractions without additional costs. The council expressed hope that all residents will take advantage of the opportunity to come together and celebrate during this vibrant community event.
