Housing development for educators set to transform Palo Alto

In a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on the 231 Grant Educator Workforce Housing Development, a project aimed at addressing housing needs for educators in the region. The development will feature 110 units, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, along with a small retail space. Four school districts—Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View Whisman, and Foothill De Anza—are participating in the initiative, which also includes 32 units designated for AMEDDA to serve San Mateo County School Districts.

The project, located on Grant Avenue in Palo Alto, is designed to cater to a range of incomes, particularly targeting the \"missing middle\" demographic. Construction is progressing well, with the fourth floor framing completed and roofing set to begin shortly. Officials encouraged community members to view the site, highlighting the project's promising development.

As the construction nears completion, the leasing process is set to commence at the beginning of the next school year. An interest list will be created for potential residents, who will be notified when applications become available. The application process will include eligibility verification for employees of the participating school districts, followed by a lottery system to establish a waitlist.

To facilitate the leasing process, officials requested assistance from the school districts in distributing marketing materials, organizing information sessions, and designating a human resources representative to verify income for applicants. The timeline indicates that outreach will begin in September, with leasing expected to start between January and April, and construction completion anticipated by May 2025.
