Pool opens for summer fun as July 4th plans unfold

The city council meeting highlighted several key updates and upcoming events, including the much-anticipated opening of the community pool on Saturday, June 15th, at noon. With recent repairs to the pool's heating system completed, officials expect a high turnout, urging residents to enjoy the facility while practicing sun safety.

In addition to the pool opening, preparations for the Fourth of July celebrations are underway, with plans for a parade and fireworks display being finalized. More information will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.

The council also discussed ongoing planning initiatives, including a scheduled meeting on June 26th to address lot consolidation and project phasing. In July, the council will focus on updating the general plan's growth management element, a requirement under Measure J. Discussions will also include objective design standards for multifamily residential projects and the finalization of consultant selections for accessory dwelling unit (ADU) prototype plans.

During the meeting, the council addressed appointments to various commissions. Mayor Zorn recommended Alison Pickard for the County Connection Advisory Committee and Lauren Crippen for the Parks, Recreation, and Maintenance Commission. Additionally, several commissioners expressed their willingness to renew their terms, while one planning commissioner opted not to continue, leading to the appointment of alternate commissioner John Klop.

The next council meeting is set for the fourth Wednesday of June, as the council will not convene on the third Wednesday due to the Juneteenth holiday.
