Martinez declares June LGBTQIA2S plus Bridal Month

The city of Martinez has officially declared June as LGBTQIA2S+ Bridal Month, recognizing the contributions and presence of the LGBTQIA2S+ community within the city. During a recent city council meeting, officials highlighted the importance of visibility, dignity, and equity for all individuals, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. The proclamation was celebrated with the raising of the rainbow flag at Ignacio Plaza, a tradition upheld for the past three years, and the city plans to host a bridal event in September.

Community members expressed their support, with resident Michelle Bailey sharing her personal experiences of acceptance in Martinez. She emphasized the significance of celebrating diversity, noting that her children have grown up in an environment that embraces inclusivity.

In addition to the LGBTQIA2S+ proclamation, the council also declared the week of June 19, 2024, as Juneteenth Week. The city will host its second annual Juneteenth celebration on June 29, 2024, at the waterfront, inviting the community to participate in honoring this important historical event.
