Mayor for a day honors young leader's community impact

During a recent city council meeting in Martinez, the council welcomed Rayanne Marzani, a fifth grader from John Muir Elementary, as \"Mayor for a Day.\" The initiative aims to engage young students in local governance and community service. Rayanne, who has demonstrated leadership through her roles in student council and environmental initiatives, was celebrated for her contributions to her school and community.

The meeting also featured several staff introductions and promotions. Chief of Police Andrew White announced the promotion of Jelissa Vargas to police officer after her graduation from the Police Academy. Vargas will now undergo field training and is noted for her bilingual skills in Spanish. Additionally, four new police officer trainees were introduced, each bringing diverse backgrounds, including military service and local community ties.

In the finance department, Christine Salsas was promoted to finance manager, recognized for her 22 years of service and resilience during departmental restructuring. Min Nguyen was introduced as the newest member of the finance team, bringing over a decade of municipal finance experience, although he was unable to attend due to illness.
