City plans vibrant cultural festival to unite communities

During a recent Plattsburgh City Council meeting, local entrepreneur David presented a proposal for a cultural event aimed at uniting diverse communities through food and music. Scheduled for September 7 at City Beach, the event, organized by Love, Peace, and Grow Cheese, seeks to celebrate the city's growing multicultural landscape. David emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating that the event would feature local vendors and artists, as well as connections with food trucks and musicians from Burlington.

The council also addressed financial matters, reporting payrolls for various city departments totaling over $621,000 for the weekend of June 26, 2024, alongside significant audit claims.

In addition, the council discussed the establishment of the Plattsburgh City Campus Coalition, a partnership with SUNY aimed at fostering collaboration and support between the city and the university. This initiative, which has been in development for some time, received positive feedback from council members, highlighting its potential benefits for both parties.

The meeting concluded with a motion to authorize a change order for ongoing renovations at City Hall, reflecting the council's commitment to maintaining city infrastructure. The next council meeting is scheduled for July 17 at the Plattsburgh Public Library.
