New mixed-use development set to transform riverfront area

A proposed mixed-use development is set to transform the northern portion of the riverfront, featuring a combination of hotel accommodations, timeshare units, and privately owned condominiums. The development plan includes 137 hotel keys, 250 timeshare units, and 150 condominiums available for sale, alongside various food and beverage outlets, three single-story retail buildings, a central services building, and ample parking with outdoor amenity areas.

According to the petitioner, this initiative aims to enhance public engagement by hosting events open to the community, thereby fostering a vibrant atmosphere in this area of the city. The project is designed to align with the existing Riverwalk and the city’s broader development plans, including a connection to the Randall family trailhead and the Cypress Inn property. Notably, the development will also preserve the tree canopy along Rice Mine Road.

The construction will occur in two phases. Phase 1 will focus on the hotel, timeshare, and retail buildings, while Phase 2 will introduce four additional condo timeshare buildings. The hotel is proposed to be a nine-level structure, featuring a restaurant and outdoor seating, with the design emphasizing connectivity between the hotel and timeshare units.

The detailed schematics and floor plans presented during the meeting illustrate the layout of the buildings, highlighting the integration of residential and commercial spaces aimed at revitalizing the area and attracting visitors. The development is positioned as a significant step towards enhancing the local economy and community engagement along the riverfront.
