Community gears up for vibrant Juneteenth celebration and events

The recent government meeting highlighted several community events and initiatives aimed at fostering engagement and celebrating local culture in Forest Park.

Tomorrow marks the start of \"Fun Friday,\" a community event featuring music in the park, encouraging families to bring their children and lawn chairs for an enjoyable evening. Additionally, the city is gearing up for its Juneteenth celebration, scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 PM, which will include a yard competition across different wards. Residents will have the opportunity to showcase their properties, with certificates awarded for the best-maintained yards.

Food Truck Fridays are also returning, with the next event set for July 12, allowing residents to enjoy diverse culinary offerings after the holiday weekend.

During the meeting, officials emphasized the importance of community involvement and transparency regarding the city’s budget. Residents were encouraged to review the budget and provide feedback, ensuring that all departments receive the necessary resources. The city is also finalizing a wage and compensation plan to ensure employees are compensated fairly.

Director Maxwell, head of Recreation and Leisure Services, announced upcoming events, including a movie night in the park for residents aged 55 and older on June 26, and a festive Juneteenth celebration featuring live music, food trucks, and a fireworks display at 9:00 PM.
