Albany High athletes celebrate historic track and flag football success

Albany High School celebrated the remarkable achievements of its boys track and field team and the inaugural girls flag football team during a recent government meeting. Coach Elliot Crosskey highlighted the track team's successful spring season, which included a top finish in the Section 2 championships, a sixth-place finish at the state meet, and a commendable 35th place at the New Balance Nationals. Crosskey praised the athletes' dedication and the crucial support from parents, emphasizing the positive environment fostered within the team.

Several student athletes took the stage to share their experiences and express gratitude. Malachi Young, a champion in the 100-meter hurdles, acknowledged his mother and teammates for their support. Adam Aliyah and Darren Harrell also thanked their coaches and parents for their encouragement throughout the season. Rohan Edwards Grant, a sophomore, celebrated his first year on varsity, while junior Samir Garner congratulated his teammates on their achievements.

In addition to the track team's recognition, the meeting also honored Albany High's inaugural girls flag football team, which posted an impressive 12-2 record and reached the sectional championship game. Coaches Decky Lawson and Rachel Swan expressed their pride in the team's dedication and success, noting the enthusiasm of the players who transitioned from other sports to embrace this new opportunity.

The event underscored the importance of community support and the positive impact of school sports on student athletes, fostering teamwork, resilience, and school spirit.
