In a recent government meeting, city officials approved a resolution to allocate additional funds for the City Hall network hardware replacement project, which is part of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The project, initially budgeted at $125,000, has seen a revised estimate of $132,624 due to unforeseen costs identified by the contracted organization, On Tech. The increase of $7,624 will be drawn from the fund balance specifically designated for IT expenses.
The network upgrade is scheduled to take place on a Saturday to minimize disruption, with city officials assuring that all systems will be restored by the end of the day. During the upgrade, various city departments, including the police and fire departments, will experience temporary outages. However, contingency plans are in place to ensure that emergency services remain operational, with police communications being redirected to the county.
Officials emphasized that On Tech, which has a history of handling similar projects for the city, is well-prepared for the task. They have conducted thorough assessments of the existing equipment and have coordinated with department heads to ensure a smooth transition during the upgrade. The staged approach to the hardware replacement aims to minimize downtime across city services, with most departments expected to be offline for only a few hours.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote in favor of the resolution, reflecting the city's commitment to maintaining and improving its technological infrastructure.
