In a recent government meeting, representatives from various sectors voiced strong support for a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing transportation in the Greater Los Angeles area. A business representative, advocating for over 8,000 members, emphasized the project's potential to create jobs that offer livable wages and benefits, particularly for union members, veterans, and individuals with challenging backgrounds. He highlighted the importance of these jobs not only for the workers but also for their families and local communities, asserting that the economic benefits would remain within the impacted areas.
The speaker noted that many contractors involved in the project have extensive experience in tunnel construction, referencing ongoing projects like the Purple Line expansion in Los Angeles. This experience is expected to ensure the project is executed safely and efficiently.
Andy Koontz, president of the US High Speed Rail Association, also expressed his organization's full support for the project, calling it the most important infrastructure initiative in the country. He praised the comprehensive analysis conducted on the project's routes and alignments, particularly noting that 80% of the line will be constructed in tunnels, minimizing environmental and community impact.
Koontz suggested that the project should include a seamless connection to Burbank Airport, allowing passengers to easily transfer from train to terminal, similar to the setup at Orlando Airport in Florida. He concluded by commending the leadership behind the project and reaffirming the association's commitment to its success.
