Community solar project promises significant savings for residents

In a recent government meeting, discussions centered around the proposed Tucked Away Solar 1 community solar project in Dorchester County, Maryland. The project, presented by representatives from Soltage LLC, aims to provide renewable energy solutions while delivering financial savings to local residents.

Bridal Mulaney, representing the applicant, emphasized the project's alignment with Maryland's community solar pilot program, which allows Delmarva Power customers to subscribe to the solar facility without altering their existing service. The initiative is projected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 290 homes, with anticipated savings of around $45,000 in the first year alone. Over the project's estimated 40-year lifespan, subscribers could benefit from total savings exceeding $2.5 million.

John Sanchez, a developer with Soltage, highlighted the company's commitment to responsible project siting and operation, ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding environment. Soltage, founded in 2006, has developed over 125 clean energy projects across 18 states, focusing primarily on community solar initiatives in Maryland.

The meeting also included a letter from the Department of Natural Resources confirming that the project site does not harbor any threatened or endangered species, further supporting the project's viability. The representatives expressed confidence that the solar project would contribute positively to the local economy and align with state goals for renewable energy and sustainability.
