Council approves controversial manufactured home permit despite opposition

The regular council meeting opened with a significant discussion regarding a conditional use permit for a manufactured home at 210 Hungry Hill Road, requested by Doug and Minnie Wells. The property is currently zoned for single-family residential use, and the council was tasked with considering the permit amidst mixed community sentiments.

One council member expressed strong opposition, citing concerns about the aesthetic impact of manufactured homes on the neighborhood, which they believe detracts from property values. This member, a resident of Hungry Hill Road, noted that previous installations took considerable time to improve their appearance and reiterated a desire for fewer manufactured homes in the area.

In contrast, another council member supported the permit, arguing that the proposed home would enhance the neighborhood's overall appearance and potentially increase property values. After deliberation, a motion was made to approve the conditional use permit, which passed unanimously.

Following this discussion, Police Chief Dorsey presented the June 2024 police department report, highlighting a total of 130 calls for service, which included eight criminal offenses and five crash reports. The report also detailed 311 citations and 217 warnings issued during the month, along with various community engagement activities such as neighborhood patrols and directed traffic enforcement.
