City Council Approves Controversial Rezoning Amid Traffic Concerns

In a recent Sioux Falls city council meeting, members approved a significant rezoning ordinance aimed at facilitating residential development in the area. The council unanimously voted 8-0 to rezone property located south of East Prairie Wind Street and east of South Badlands Avenue from the Agriculture District to the RA-2 Apartment Residential designation, which allows for moderate-density housing.

During the meeting, local resident Todd Boyd expressed concerns regarding the potential increase in traffic on South Canyon Spring Avenue due to the new zoning. Boyd highlighted that the area, which he referred to as the \"grandma and grandpa block,\" currently consists of 30 villas and is not equipped to handle the anticipated surge in vehicle flow from the proposed multi-family housing. He raised questions about the timeline for road construction and the impact of increased traffic on the neighborhood's safety and quality of life.
