Jim Thorpe tackles visitor surge with new safety measures

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the growing need to accommodate increasing visitor traffic in Jim Thorpe, particularly in light of complaints regarding long wait times at local restaurants and limited food options. To address these concerns, two additional vendors have been approved for the park, aiming to enhance the visitor experience.

Officials highlighted ongoing collaborative efforts involving the Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce, the Pocono Vacation Bureau, local police and fire departments, and county representatives to improve parking and public safety. These discussions have focused on ensuring smooth traffic flow and emergency access throughout the town, especially during peak visitor times.

Additionally, safety improvements at the railroad crossing were announced, including the installation of gates, signage, and warning systems to protect pedestrians. Notably, this project will incur no costs to the county or borough, thanks to the cooperation of the Redding Railroad. The work is scheduled to take place at night to minimize disruptions to daytime traffic.

The meeting concluded with a reminder for residents to enjoy the activities at Longchuck Lake Park, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in local outdoor events.
