Railroad upgrades promise safer crossings and improved traffic flow

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed significant improvements to local railroad infrastructure aimed at enhancing safety and traffic flow. The planned upgrades include the installation of signal lights that will activate when trains are approximately 1,000 feet away, ensuring that vehicles and pedestrians are alerted in advance.

Concerns regarding the potential installation of armatures that could obstruct traffic have been alleviated, as officials confirmed that only signal lights will be implemented. Additionally, lift gates will be added at two pedestrian crossings to prevent individuals from crossing the tracks unsafely while waiting.

The meeting also addressed the removal of two obsolete telephone poles, which will be replaced with a service line relocated further up the track. A kiosk currently obstructing a crosswalk will be moved four feet to improve pedestrian access.

The project is on schedule for completion by mid-July, with work planned to take place overnight to minimize disruption. All remaining wiring will be placed underground, enhancing the overall safety and aesthetics of the area.

In another discussion, officials confirmed that the budget process remains on track, with the tentative budget expected to be adopted in November, adhering to state law requirements for public display and approval by the end of December.
