Community workshops set to reshape St Augustine's vision

The City of St. Augustine is embarking on a significant update to its community vision plan, originally established a decade ago. During a recent government meeting, city officials announced a series of workshops aimed at gathering public input on the existing plan and identifying necessary revisions. The initiative, led by the Northeast Florida Regional Council, will include multiple workshops held across various locations in the city over the coming months.

Monica Dominguez, a representative from the Regional Council, emphasized the importance of community engagement in shaping the updated vision statement. The first public meeting is scheduled for September 12 at the St. Johns County Main Library, with subsequent sessions focusing on themes such as resiliency and sustainability, particularly in light of St. Augustine's ongoing flooding challenges.

The workshops will feature a mix of presentations and interactive feedback tools, including live polling and breakout sessions, to encourage participation from residents. Dominguez and her colleague Joe Seerle expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting their commitment to inclusivity and outreach to all neighborhoods, not just the downtown area.

City officials also discussed strategies for promoting the workshops, including social media campaigns and newsletters, to ensure broad community awareness and participation. The goal is to create a comprehensive vision narrative that reflects the diverse perspectives of St. Augustine's residents.

As the process unfolds, city leaders are keen on establishing clear, actionable goals to accompany the updated vision plan, ensuring that the community can track progress and hold officials accountable. The final report, summarizing public feedback and proposed updates, is expected to be presented in January.
