Officials scramble to address leaked plan amid backlash

A controversial plan related to state acquisitions and restoration efforts has come under scrutiny following a leak that prompted an expedited public response. However, the leak forced officials to organize a series of comment meetings across the state, designed to accommodate small groups of 100 to 200 participants each.

These hastily arranged meetings, which included a video presentation, were intended to provide a brief overview of the plan, allowing for limited public input. Each session was capped at one hour, potentially allowing for only about 15 speakers to voice their opinions. The rushed nature of the meetings raised concerns among community members about the transparency and inclusivity of the process.

In response to significant public pushback, the state has since canceled the initial meetings and announced plans to reschedule them for the week of September 2nd. This decision reflects an acknowledgment of the need for a more open dialogue with the public regarding the implications of the proposed plan.
