During a recent government meeting, local resident Robert Davis voiced urgent concerns regarding escalating traffic issues in his neighborhood, particularly on Azalea Street. Davis, who resides near North Maple Street, reported a significant increase in traffic volume every Sunday morning between 7 and 10 a.m., noting that there is often no police presence during these peak hours.
Davis described how vehicles frequently speed through the area, reaching speeds of 40 to 45 miles per hour, and fail to stop properly at stop signs. He highlighted that the traffic patterns have changed since the construction of new homes in the west end of town, which has led to Azalea Street becoming a primary route for commuters. He expressed frustration that despite an increase in police officers, the traffic has doubled or tripled, and the enforcement of speed limits appears to be lacking.
Davis urged local authorities to reconsider police scheduling to address the traffic violations occurring during these critical times. He emphasized the danger posed by speeding vehicles, particularly large trucks, and expressed his growing concern for the safety of residents. The meeting concluded without additional public comments, leaving Davis's concerns unaddressed for the time being.
