Council launches ambitious update to Kerrville 2050 plan

The Kerrville City Council has approved a contract with Friese and Nichols to update the Kerrville 2050 comprehensive plan, marking a significant step in the city's long-term planning efforts. The update will involve the establishment of a Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC), which will be led by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The process will include public meetings aimed at gathering input from both the commission and the community on various scenarios for the plan. A kickoff meeting with the consultant is scheduled for July 2, where the agenda will also include regular council business.

In addition to the comprehensive plan update, a downtown master plan will be developed concurrently, supported by a downtown advisory committee comprising members from the TIRS board, Main Street, and the Historic Downtown Business Association. Key focus areas for the updates will include land use, infrastructure, sustainability, economic development, and housing.

As the project progresses, a small area plan around Nimitz Lake will also be addressed to ensure adequate infrastructure capacity aligns with planned land use. The timeline for the comprehensive plan update aims for adoption in June 2025, which will include revised chapters and an implementation plan based on public engagement feedback.

In a related note, the council acknowledged Drew's promotion to Director of Development Services, highlighting the ongoing developments within the city's administrative structure.
