Water tank concerns spark heated town council debate

In a recent town council meeting, discussions centered around the critical state of the town's water system, particularly focusing on a 3-million-gallon water tank situated on a prime piece of property. The tank, which is essential for the town's water supply, is currently located at a high elevation, allowing for a gravity-fed water system that serves all residents.

Concerns were raised regarding the structural integrity and future viability of the tank, which is over 50 years old. Council members debated the potential costs and implications of relocating the tank, with estimates suggesting that such a move could run into tens of millions of dollars. To address these concerns, the town council has contracted American Tank Company for comprehensive inspections and resurfacing of the tank. The contract was finalized on July 1 of this year, following previous discussions about the tank's condition that took place in April 2022.

The council emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the water supply, especially in light of potential liabilities that could arise from any failure of the tank, which could impact several high-value properties in the area. The ongoing maintenance and inspection efforts are seen as crucial steps in preventing any future crises related to the town's water infrastructure.
