In a recent government meeting, Carla highlighted the pressing issue of diaper need as Diaper Need Awareness Week approaches. She emphasized the critical role of CYP's Diaper Bank in addressing this challenge, particularly for families facing financial hardships.
Carla shared a poignant scenario: a parent running out of diapers just days before payday, illustrating the urgent need for support. Despite programs like SNAP and WIC providing essential assistance, they do not cover the cost of diapers, leaving many families to fend for themselves.
CYP's Diaper Bank has stepped in to fill this gap, offering contactless diaper pickups on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at their Manio office. From July 2023 to June 2024, the organization hosted 12 diaper pickup events and two drive-through events at the Fedsden Center in Buxton, expanding their reach to more families in need.
The impact of these initiatives is significant. Carla reported an average of 134 families served monthly, an increase from 104 families the previous year. At their peak, the bank assisted 152 families in a single month, distributing a total of 36,100 packs of diapers during the 2023-2024 period. This growth underscores the increasing demand for diaper assistance in the community, highlighting the vital work being done by CYP's Diaper Bank to support families in need.
