Community unites for pride month celebration and remembrance

During a recent government meeting in Abilene, community members voiced their concerns and suggestions regarding local programs and events, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and support for various demographics.

One speaker emphasized the need for after-school care options, particularly for families in the Stephenson Park area. They proposed utilizing the GB Daniels Woodson gym to ensure that families are not displaced and that senior citizens can access familiar staff at Rose Park. This approach aims to create a comfortable environment for seniors and encourage their continued participation in community programs.

Another significant discussion point came from Jason Hernandez Marshall, who spoke passionately about Pride Month and the importance of recognizing the LGBTQ+ community's history and struggles. Bings advocated for keeping discussions about sexuality within adult contexts, expressing discomfort with the idea of children being exposed to such topics.
