In a recent government meeting, plans for a new five-story hotel in the Nora District were discussed, highlighting significant developments in the area. The proposed hotel, which will feature 201 rooms and various amenities including multiple dining options, a rooftop pool, and a fitness center, is set to be the tallest structure along the 11th Street corridor.
The site for the hotel is located on the westernmost portion of the 11th Street right-of-way, bordered by vacant land to the north and east, an active railroad to the west, and ongoing construction for the Nora District to the south. The project will encompass a total of 1.14 acres, with a portion of the right-of-way being abandoned to facilitate the hotel’s construction. However, a section of this area will remain as a road to ensure access to the hotel and its service areas.
The hotel’s design includes a concealed parking garage on the first floor, with retail space and outdoor dining options planned for the ground level. The project has already received approval from the Downtown Action Committee and is awaiting final city approvals to proceed.
The applicant has compensated the city $170,979.70 for the abandonment of the right-of-way, and city staff have recommended approval of the project, citing its potential to activate an underutilized area and enhance the local economy. The hotel is expected to have a positive impact on the Nora and Brailsford Park Districts, with construction anticipated to begin soon following the completion of necessary approvals.
