Community gears up for summer of exciting events

During a recent council meeting in Texarkana, Mayor highlighted a series of upcoming community events aimed at engaging residents and promoting local activities. The mayor emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, \"If there's someone who's out there that says there's nothing to do in Texarkana, well, you're not engaged.\"

Key events include the annual American Legion baseball tournament from June 13 to 15 at Spring Lake Park, and the Tennessee softball tournament from June 14 to 16 at Grady T. Wallace Park. The city will also host \"Popsicles in the Park\" every other Thursday starting June 20, along with a movie night featuring \"Barbie\" on the same day at dusk.

In addition to sports, the city is preparing for a series of celebrations for Juneteenth, including a parade and festival on June 15, and a concert featuring local artists on June 22. The Farmers Market will operate every Saturday in June and July at a new location in front of the courthouse.

The meeting also included an open forum where residents could voice concerns. David F. Greene addressed the council regarding potential train derailments, sharing his experiences as a lifelong resident and his concerns about safety.
