City leaders celebrate resilience and community at Juneteenth event

During a recent Missouri City council meeting, members expressed gratitude and shared updates on community events, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming Juneteenth celebrations. Council member Jeffrey L. Baughn highlighted his participation in the National League of Cities conference, where he discussed potential federal funding for local projects, including a long-awaited railroad flyover at Cravens Road and Gessner.

Baughn also praised the Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation for its successful events, emphasizing the importance of remembering not only the struggles of the past but also the resilience and perseverance of ancestors. He encouraged the community to reflect on these themes as they approach Juneteenth.

Council member Anthony Murrowols echoed Baughn's sentiments, expressing relief at seeing fellow council member Riley recovering from health issues. He invited residents to join the Juneteenth festivities, which he described as a significant occasion for the community.

Council member Emery commended the organization of the Juneteenth gala and golf tournament, noting the growing participation in these events. He also presented a $400 check from the Women's Club of Missouri City to support the local animal shelter, recognizing its efforts in fostering and adoption.

The meeting concluded with council members reaffirming their commitment to serving the community, acknowledging that while disagreements may arise, their shared humanity and dedication to Missouri City remain paramount.
