Council member shares emotional recovery after stroke ordeal

During a recent government meeting, District 8 Council Member Monica Riley expressed heartfelt gratitude to her colleagues and city staff while reflecting on her recent health challenges. In a poignant address, Riley acknowledged the support she received from various city departments, particularly the police and fire departments, following her stroke two weeks prior.

Riley began her remarks by extending Father's Day and Juneteenth wishes to her fellow council members and residents. She highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Parks Department, Public Works, and Communications, celebrating their achievements.

The council member shared her emotional experience of returning to the dais, thanking Chief Harris for his prompt response during her medical emergency and Chief Perdita for his assistance. She expressed appreciation for the support from her partner and other council members, including Mayor Pro Tem Lynne Clow, who helped her during her recovery.

She specifically thanked Fire Station Number 3 for their swift action, which led to her being taken to Sugar Land Methodist, a stroke-certified center, where she received critical care.
