In 2023 alone, SOS alerts have successfully provided timely safety information to over 30 million individuals across 120 wildfire events globally. This initiative underscores the importance of real-time communication during emergencies.
To further aid in wildfire response, a new wildfire boundary tracker has been developed, utilizing AI and satellite imagery to map large fires almost in real time, with updates every 15 minutes. This tool is currently accessible through Google search and maps in fire-prone regions of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia, with plans for expanded coverage.
Moreover, the collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service aims to implement the most significant updates to fire spread modeling in half a century. This advanced model employs machine learning to better understand fire dynamics, assisting fire authorities in training personnel, identifying effective fuel treatments, and enhancing safety measures during large-scale firefighting operations.
